Warwickshire is the heart of England and is famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. However, there is far more to Warwickshire than just the Bard of Avon. Amongst its many historical treasures, for example, it  boasts two of the finest castles in England. Warwick Castle is described as "Britain's Greatest Mediaeval Experience", and Kenilworth Castle is a glorious romantic ruin which is the setting for the novel of the same name by Sir Walter Scott. There are a number of stately homes and numerous historic buildings (see below). 
The county is generally divided into North Warwickshire (Atherstone, Bedworth, Coleshill, Nuneaton, Wishaw) and South Warwickshire (Alcester, Baginton, Henley, Kenilworth, Leamington, Rugby, Shipston, Southam, Stratford, Tanworth, Warwick). Warwickshire is one of the three main counties of the Cotswolds.
