IN TANWORTH-IN-ARDEN
|
Tanworth-in-Arden
was previously surrounded by the vast Forest of Arden (from whence it
derives its name), before it was cleared during the industrial
revolution. Notable historical buildings still standing in the village
include The Bell Inn and the 14th century Church of St. Mary Magdalene.
Tanworth was the childhood home of folk musician Nick Drake, who is now
approaching cult status, and who is buried in the same churchyard as
nine-time world motorcycle champion Mike Hailwood. The village was also
the filming location for the fictional village of Kings Oak in the
wonderfully creaky British television series 'Crossroads', which
originally ran from 1970 and 1988 and (in which, coincidentally, Nick
Drake's sister Gabrielle once starred). |
