IN & AROUND BEDWORTH
|
Bedworth
is a small market town in North Warwickshire, with Saxon
origins and which developed into an industrial town in the 18th
&
19th century. It was part of the silk industry which was set up in the
local area as a cottage industry in the 19th century.
Pronounced
'Bed-uf' by the locals, the common
pronunciation is the phonetic 'Bed-worth.
The indoor market in the town centre has recently been renovated, to
provide a bright and cheerful place to shop and take refreshments.
Although the town only has a population of around 30,000 it has its own
symphony orchestra, which was formed in 1971 and now has around 40
playing members. The orchestra has a varied repetoire and perfoms at
events with local choral societies, charities and schools. |
